Article Abstract

Primary care physicians (PCP) treat many patients with depression but may be less likely than specialists to provide measurement-based care. Optimal care for major depressive disorder (MDD) should involve regular assessment of symptom resolution, treatment adherence, and tolerability. The following 3 case presentations demonstrate how measurement-based care can be used to monitor treatment benefits and adverse effects, how to improve adherence and patient outcomes, and how to recognize and treat residual symptoms. To listen to podcast discussions of the cases among faculty experts, go to PSYCHIATRIST.COM and enter the keyword depression.
