Letter to the Editor

Sir: Corticosteroid therapy, used to treat a variety of inflammatory diseases, can cause severe mood changes and psychosis in a subgroup of patients. This case suggests that lamotrigine, a new anticonvulsive drug with mood-stabilizing effects, may prevent steroid-induced mania in patients for whom lithium or valproate treatment is not possible.
