In 1999, the Annual Meeting of the American Psychiatric Association will have asits theme, "The Clinician." While the symposium upon which this supplement isbased actually took place at the 1998 Annual Meeting, its contents clearly anticipatenext year’s theme. Our goal was to address the continual diagnostic and therapeuticchallenges presented by depressive disorders in ways they would be of practical valueto clinicians.
