The patient is a 38-year-old white woman, married for10 years to an engineer. She has a 12-year-old son from a previous marriage and a toddler. She taught highschool for several years before returning to school herselfwith the goal of becoming a medical researcher. Her pastmedical history is remarkable only for peptic ulcer disease.Her mother is being treated for hypertension andmigraine headaches.
