Article Abstract

Sir: Traditional antipsychotics are potent acute antimanic agents. However, their utility is limited by acute and chronic neurologic toxicity, which appears to be more prevalent in mood disorder than in schizophrenia patients. In addition, in some patients older antipsychotics may either exacerbate or fail to relieve or to prevent depressive symptoms.
